O que não tem espaço está em todo lugar | What Has No Space Is Everywhere

Cinema Mentiré and Spectra present two short film programmes exploring queer Latinx diaspora experiences as part of InBetween: A V&A East Latinx Takeover

28 SEPTEMBER, 5-9 PM | UCL EAST ( Free event)

O que não tem espaço está em todo lugar | What Has No Space Is Everywhere is a double programme curated by Cinema Mentiré and Spectra. Through video, moving image and performance, these films delve into the complexities of identity, displacement, and belonging across diverse countries and cultures. Movimiento focuses on movement and bodies, showcasing dance and performance as tools of empowerment and emotional intimacy. Territorio examines identity, memory, and belonging, addressing themes of displacement and cultural synthesis.

Together, these two programmes explore the relationship between memory, cultural identity, gender performance, displacement and grief; they propose a dissolution of boundaries between individual and collective experiences. Featuring works from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Venezuela and the UK.

The title O que não tem espaço está em todo lugar | What Has No Space Is Everywhere is inspired by a short film of the same name by Jota Mombaça, a Brazilian interdisciplinary artist based in Europe. Blending travel diary and essay, that work guided us in the curation of this programme, affirming life and resistance even amid pain and interdiction for dissident bodies and subjectivities.

Content warning: the films might include scenes of nudity, sexuality and explicit content (Territorio) and violent references and images of corpses (Movimiento).

O que não tem espaço está em todo lugar | What Has No Space Is Everywhere is part of InBetween: A V&A East Latinx Takeover at UCL East Campus.
